Interesting and informative read
The humor and sincerety are refreshing. It's difficult to 'keep it real' when writing about the 60's and all that it brought with it. Dale does so with clarity and purpose. His journey was one that thousands of his generation made and tens of thousands more wanted to make. He succeeded in finding his ultimate goal and also discovered that finding the goal was just the beginning of the true journey.
At first I thought Dale's vocabulary was so sophisticated and high falutin' that I'd have to slow down my normal reading rate or re-read lines to make sure I understood what he was saying; but THEN...his story AND style of writing just "hooked" me and I was done before I knew it!!! While Dale's writing style is HILARIOUS and SO SO CREATIVELY CLEVER, his PUNCH LINE--the MESSAGE of this book--is powerfully SPIRITUAL in nature. He leads you along on his true physical world journey and then, when you least expect it, WHAM!! A surprising twist that just kept me "hooked" and fed my mind, heart, & soul!!!
The Journey of Coming to Know…by Dale Woodbury Ramsdell…is one hell of a ride! Hold on folks for a few twists and turns as Dale weaves in and out of metaphors like some folks weave in and out of traffics. Dale’s writing style is hilarious, insightful and ‘punny’…just like Dale himself.
The Journey of Coming to Know reminds me of Revolution by Russell Brand for making spiritual matters both accessible and ‘everyday’ matters while remaining sacred. It also reminds me of Terry Pratchett as the wit is both cutting and subtle…worth a second read.
My first though upon cracking open this book -- if, indeed, you can crack open an ebook -- was, "Quite entertaining, but, my God, Dale needs an editor!" My second thought was, "Scratch that. Any but the lightest of editing might destroy his unique voice. Better to just go along for the ride and quit the backseat driving." For the journey is wildly satisfying. Dale plays with language in a way the rest of us wish we could. And he alternates those many amusing muses with some of the best thoughts on a spiritually guided life than a clown car or phone booth full of philosophers. Bravo, Dale!
Dale Ramsdell has a unique voice and writes of his spiritual journey towards realizing the oneness of humanity and its paths to spiritual truth as an allegory of a road trip. HIs book is full of insights into deep spiritual truths along with amusing asides, anecdotes, and word play.
